"Love what you do, and you'll never work a day in your life."
I always heard that saying growing up but never had a chance to experience it until I started my photography business. I know I may be oversimplifying this, but I seriously just love shooting engagements and weddings! Every couple is so unique and beautiful in their own way. I love meeting the challenge, and having the privilege, of capturing each couple’s unique story on camera.
A little about my background… I was born and raised in beautiful San Luis Obispo, California, and graduated with a Bachelor in Kinesiology from California Polytechnic University in 2010. Like many college grads (I’m finding out), I ended up with a completely different career then I imagined in the beginning. Instead of becoming a Physical Therapist I became a Wedding Photographer. Although incredibly fascinating and informative, all those anatomy classes I took don’t quite apply now ha!
I currently live in San Luis Obispo County, California, with my husband Caleb. I have to brag a little bit and tell you that I believe my husband is somewhat of a genius. There is no way Ashley Rae Studio could exist as successfully as it is without him. He is my right hand man when it comes to everything technical, which is perfect because I am very much the “left brained” creative. He designed and fine-tuned this entire website, and does a host of other things to present Ashley Rae Studio the way I imagined it from the beginning. He also happens to be our lead cinematographer which makes us a great team on wedding days. During our down time we do tend to binge watch Netflix shows, eat out at our favorite restaurants (I’m a foodie, and he is becoming one), and taste our favorite whiskeys side by side while we describe them to each other as if we are royalty.
Lastly, it kind of feels like a crime to not mention the third member of our family, a fluffy maltese mix named Cooper. I will add a picture here of his adorableness soon! He is incredibly cuddly and well behaved. However, he does tend to get a little cranky (like the rest of us) in the evenings when he is most tired after such a long day of dog life. I used to think dog people were a little bit off their rocker. Not anymore. If you have a fur baby, I totally get you now! Let’s get together and show each other dog photos!
Ok enough about me! If you are visiting this site and are interested in getting to know me a bit more and about our wedding photography and/or cinematography process, I’d love to chat with you over a cappuccino or glass of wine! If distance separates us, I’m happy to chat over the phone or a video call and even give you a personal introduction to Cooper if you’d like. Thanks for taking the time to read these words, and I hope to meet you soon!
